Solo Class Tier List — EverQuest Legends

Solo class tier rankings for EQL — which classes excel at solo content, which struggle, and how the 3-class system changes solo play.

Solo Class Tier List — Who Rules the Solo Game?

Solo play in EverQuest Legends is a fundamentally different experience from group content. While some classes shine in dungeons and raids with party support, the solo game rewards self-sufficiency above all else. A great solo class can heal itself, deal consistent damage, manage crowds, and recover from dangerous situations without any help. This tier list ranks all 16 classes by their solo capability, considering kill speed, sustainability, crowd control options, and overall independence.

Importantly, EverQuest Legends features a 3-class system that allows you to combine three classes on a single character. This dramatically changes the solo landscape — even classes that are weak soloists can become powerful when paired with complementary classes. This tier list evaluates each class's solo potential both on its own and as part of an effective solo combo.

Tier Criteria

Classes are evaluated on the following criteria for solo ranking:

  • Kill Speed — How quickly the class can defeat enemies. Faster kills mean more experience and loot per hour.
  • Sustainability — How long the class can fight without needing to rest or recover. Classes with self-healing and mana regeneration excel here.
  • Crowd Control — How well the class handles multiple enemies simultaneously. Fear kiting, mezzing, and pet tanking are all forms of solo crowd control.
  • Versatility — How many different types of content the class can handle solo. Some classes solo only specific mob types effectively.
  • Safety — How likely the class is to die during solo content. Classes with escape mechanisms like Feign Death rank higher in safety.

S-Tier — The Solo Kings

Necromancer

The undisputed king of solo content in EverQuest Legends. Necromancers combine powerful pets that serve as personal tanks, life tap spells that heal while dealing damage, fear spells for kiting strategies, and a lich form that provides unmatched mana regeneration. A Necromancer can solo content intended for full groups, including dungeon clearing and named mob farming. Their only weakness is that some raid-level content has fear-immune mobs, which limits their fear-kiting strategy. However, even without fear, the pet-and-lifetap combination is extraordinarily effective. Pair a Necromancer with almost any other class in a 3-class combo and you have a foundation for solo excellence.

Bard

Bards are extraordinary soloers thanks to their unique song-twisting mechanic. A skilled Bard can maintain multiple songs simultaneously — haste for damage, regeneration for sustainability, slow on enemies for reduced incoming damage, and fear for kiting. Bard fear kiting is nearly as effective as Necromancer fear kiting, and Bards add superior movement speed for travel and escape. The primary limitation is that Bard soloing requires constant attention and skillful song twisting — it is one of the most mechanically demanding playstyles in the game. A skilled Bard can solo nearly anything a Necromancer can, but a less skilled Bard will struggle significantly.

A-Tier — Excellent Soloists

Shaman

Shamans are outstanding soloers due to Slow, which dramatically reduces incoming damage, combined with decent healing, strong buffs, Cannibalize for mana sustainability, and a pet for supplementary damage. A Shaman can solo effectively by slowing the target, buffing themselves and their pet, and grinding through enemies methodically. While their kill speed is slower than S-tier classes, their sustainability is nearly unmatched. The Barbarian Shaman is the classic solo build.

Beastlord

Beastlords solo by combining their own melee damage with their warder pet's damage, creating a two-source DPS stream that is surprisingly effective. Their slow ability and self-buffs provide the sustainability needed for extended solo sessions. Beastlords are not as flashy as Necromancers or as versatile as Bards, but their consistent, reliable solo performance makes them a popular choice for players who want a straightforward solo experience.

Enchanter

Enchanters solo primarily through charm — turning dangerous mobs into personal pets that deal enormous damage while the Enchanter keeps them charmed. Charm soloing is the highest-risk, highest-reward solo strategy in the game. A charmed mob can output far more DPS than any class's summoned pet, but charm breaks are extremely dangerous and can result in quick deaths. Enchanters also have mez for crowd control and rune spells for damage absorption. The risk-reward profile makes Enchanter soloing exciting but not for the faint of heart.

B-Tier — Solid Soloists

Druid

Druids solo through a combination of decent nukes, damage shields, healing, and snare for kiting. Druid kiting — snaring a mob and running while damage shields and DoTs wear it down — is a reliable if somewhat slow solo strategy. Druid ports provide unmatched travel convenience for reaching solo spots quickly. The main limitation is kill speed — Druids are slower killers than S-tier and A-tier classes.

Shadow Knight

Shadow Knights solo by tanking mobs directly and using life taps to sustain health. Their combination of tank durability and life tap healing makes them capable of soloing challenging content, but their kill speed is moderate and mana limitations restrict their spell usage. Feign Death provides an excellent escape mechanism that other tank classes lack. Pairing a Shadow Knight with a Troll for regeneration enhances their sustainability.

Magician

Magicians solo by sending their powerful pets to tank while they nuke from range. The Magician pet is the strongest in the game, capable of tanking challenging content while the Magician provides damage support and pet heals. The limitation is that the Magician themselves is extremely fragile — if the pet dies and the mob aggros the Magician, death comes quickly. Magician soloing is effective but less forgiving than Necromancer soloing.

Paladin

Paladins solo through direct tanking supplemented by healing spells and Lay on Hands for emergencies. Their undead-targeted damage spells make them exceptional soloers in zones with heavy undead populations. Outside of undead content, their kill speed is slow but their sustainability is solid. The Dwarf Paladin is a popular solo choice for the high stamina.

C-Tier — Limited Soloists

Ranger

Rangers solo through bow kiting — snaring a mob and attacking from range with archery. This strategy works but is slow and mana-intensive. Rangers also have tracking for finding specific mobs, which is useful for targeted solo farming. Their fragility as a melee class means they cannot effectively tank-and-spank challenging content. Ranger soloing is viable but not competitive.

Monk

Monks solo through raw melee damage and Feign Death for escape. Their damage output is strong, but without healing, they must rest between fights to regenerate health. Feign Death makes Monks one of the safest solo classes for escaping bad situations, but their downtime between kills makes them slower overall than classes with self-healing.

Wizard

Wizards solo through root-and-nuke — rooting the mob in place and blasting it with powerful nukes from range. This strategy works against single targets but is mana-intensive and has significant downtime. Wizards also have the risk of root breaks mid-fight, which can be dangerous given their extremely low HP. Wizard quad-kiting (AoE nuking four snared mobs simultaneously) is a high-level strategy that provides excellent experience but requires significant skill and safe areas.

D-Tier — Poor Soloists

Warrior

Warriors are the worst solo class in EverQuest Legends. Without any healing, crowd control, or utility, Warriors can only solo by tanking mobs directly and resting between fights. The downtime between kills is enormous, and any adds during a fight are potentially fatal. Warriors are designed for group content and struggle mightily alone. See our Warrior tank guide for why Warriors need group support.

Cleric

Clerics have powerful healing but weak damage. Their solo kill speed is among the slowest in the game, making solo leveling extremely tedious. While they can sustain themselves indefinitely against single targets, the time required to kill anything makes Cleric soloing impractical for leveling. Clerics shine in groups, not alone.

Rogue

Rogues require a target's back for Backstab, which is difficult to achieve solo without someone else holding aggro. Without Backstab, Rogue DPS drops dramatically. Rogues also have no healing and limited crowd control (only intimidate, which works inconsistently). Solo Rogue play is slow and dangerous.

Berserker

Berserkers share the Warrior's fundamental solo weakness — no healing, no crowd control, pure melee. Their burst damage helps kill things faster than a Warrior, but the downtime between fights and vulnerability to adds make Berserker soloing inefficient.

Tips and Strategies

  • Combine classes for solo power: The 3-class system lets you pair a weak solo class with a strong one. A Warrior-Cleric-Necromancer combo, for example, gives you tanking, healing, and pet DPS on a single character — covering every role you need for effective soloing. See our best solo class combinations guide for optimized combos.

  • Play to your class's solo strategy: Each solo class has an optimal approach. Necromancers should fear kite. Bards should twist songs. Enchanters should charm. Trying to force a class into a solo style that does not suit it is inefficient.

  • Use the right gear for soloing: Solo gear differs from group gear. Prioritize self-sufficiency stats — HP, mana regeneration, and avoidance — over group-optimized stats. Check our gear upgrade priority guide for solo-focused recommendations.

  • Choose solo-friendly zones: Some zones are better for soloing than others. Open zones with single-pullable mobs and fear-kiting room are ideal. Dungeons with heavy mob density are generally poor for soloing unless you are an exceptional player. See our zone progression guide for solo-friendly zone recommendations.

  • Invest in AAs that boost solo power: AAs that enhance pet damage, life tap efficiency, mana regeneration, and Feign Death reliability all significantly improve solo performance. Check our best AA for each class guide.

Common Mistakes

  • Trying to solo with a D-tier class without combo support: Warriors and Rogues are simply not designed for solo content. If you want to solo on these classes, build a 3-class combo that provides healing and utility.

  • Ignoring fear kiting on fear-capable classes: Fear kiting is the most efficient solo strategy in EQL. Classes that can fear kite should learn and master this technique rather than trying to tank mobs directly.

  • Overlooking pet management: Pet classes lose effectiveness when their pet is poorly managed. Learn to position, heal, and control your pet for maximum solo efficiency.

  • Not using the shared AA pool: The shared AA pool means AA progress on your solo class also benefits your other classes. Maximize AA farming on your solo class for cross-class benefits.

  • Fighting in dangerous zones solo: Some zones are simply too dangerous for solo play due to mob density, roamer patterns, and limited escape routes. Choose your solo zones carefully.

Conclusion

Solo capability in EverQuest Legends varies enormously between classes, from the godlike self-sufficiency of the Necromancer to the painful dependence of the Warrior. Understanding where your class falls on the solo tier list helps you set appropriate expectations and plan your 3-class combo to cover any solo weaknesses. Whether you prefer the methodical approach of a Shaman, the thrilling charm gameplay of an Enchanter, or the simple power of a Necromancer, there is a solo style for every player in Norrath.
